I never saw the appeal for coffee, maybe it was the smell or the taste that I couldn't get past, regardless I still to this day haven't had a cup. I have, however, always been a fan of green tea, so when I came across Match, I found my morning GO-TO. You may just want to check it out once you hear all the incredible benefits of this extremely popular green drink!
So, what is Matcha? Matcha is powered form of green tea that comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant. The leaves are ground up once the stems and veins have been removed and the resulting product is known as Matcha. One of the most beneficial aspects of the process of creating this tea is the abundant amount of nutrients obtained from utilizing the entire tea leaf, and the resulted increased amount of caffeine and antioxidants produced.
High In Antioxidants
Matcha is extremely rich in antioxidants, about 137x the amount of a regular cup of green tea. Not to mention just 1 cup of this amazing drink has the nutritional content that it would otherwise take 10 cups of brewed green tea to match! 1
Antioxidants are important because they help the body fight chronic disease and combat exposure to free radicals. One of the most important antioxidants to note, in Matcha, are catechins which can counteract exposure to pollution, UV rays, and harmful chemicals that affect our cells and DNA. They have also claimed to have "Potent cancer-fighting properties." 1 Lowering exposure to free radicals and harmful chemicals is an important component in decreasing the risk for chronic disease.
Aids in Weight Loss
Green tea has been shown to improve the ability to burn fat due to its thermogenic properties. Studies show consuming matcha promotes an increase in fat oxidation (Using fat for energy) by increasing the levels of fat burning hormones such as norepinephrine. These hormones signal the body to break down fat from cells and use that fuel for energy. 2, 3 Matcha has also shown to increase one's total energy expenditure in a 24 hour period, this is the number of calories the body burns each day. Combine an increase in burning fat for fuel with the regulation of blood sugar and insulin levels matcha provides and you're well on your way to results. 3, 4
Aids in Detoxification
Matcha is rich in the element, chlorophyll, which helps the body detox from harmful chemicals or metals you may have been exposed and improves oxygen delivery to the cells This popular drink provides a sense of calm and focus due to it's L-Theanine amino acid component and contains other vitamins and minerals including vitamin c, selenium, chromium, zinc, and magnesium. Approximately 80% of the population is deficient in magnesium, which makes Matcha a great, simple, way to add this mineral to your diet.
